The Cosumnes CSD is up for sale.   Well, spaces on it anyway.

Today the Parks and Recreation departments of the Cosumnes Community Services District unveiled their new "Season Ticket" business advertising program.

In an effort to make up for years of falling property taxes since the housing bubble burst, the district has followed the. Lead of many jurisdictions around the state, by choosing 500 potential sites in our over 90  parks and sports facilities where local or regional businesses and organizations can share their message with the public.

(Quote1) "We're not the first..."

Kristyn Staby works on Sponsorship and Special events for the CSD, who host a number of community and family oriented extravaganzas each year, from tthe sumer music festivals, father daughter dances, ans the Giant Pumpkin Festival. Staby says this program is notjing new for the CSD

(Quote 2) "We've been doing..."

Among the locations chosen for the new ads are the Bartholomew Sports Complex, Wackford Center, and Emerald Lakes Golf course, and even the Elk Grove Dog Park. Business advertisers will have the chance to have a customized presense arount town, with a program called "your Fantasy Brand."  A year's commitment will run from $188 at the Dog Park, to around $10,000 to have a message wrapped around 5 golf carts at Emerald Lake. All the fees include creating the materials, which will insure a quality presentation.

While  spots like the golf course or the sports compex might make sense, the selection of some of our community parks doesn't seem to sit well.  In the plan are included Rau Community park, Morse Park, and the new, Derr Okamoto Community park, which hasn't even had it's ribbon cut yet.

But Staby says all  the sites were picked very carefully.

(Quote 3) At We didn't pick but where there were...

So there seems little chance that our playgrounds will become covered with vinyl wall paper in the near future. In fact, Staby predicts that not more than 5-10% of the available spaces are expected to be filled in the first year.

The income potential for the district is substantial.  With all 500 spaces filled, would be over $600,000 a year. That's more than one percent of the district's overall budget of around $50 million.

But according to Jeff Ramos, it's more than just cash. It's about helping Elk Grove businesses and customers to get connected.

(Quote 4 - Ramos) "Our motto is..."

Availability won't be limited to local businesses, according to Ramos, but for now the outreach has been primarily within the district boundaries.

Today's event got the ball rolling, with six businesses signing up even before the raffle. We can expect to begin seeing banners go up by the end of May.
