We've seen already what they can do. Now it is time to see what 'new blood' can do.” - LaWanna Montgomery

In her third attempt at city office, Mayoral Candidate LaWanna Montgomery feels she has a good chance of becoming Elk Grove's next mayor

According to her statements in a today's interview, Mongomery says her vision is to see Elk Grove become a “one-stop shop” for citizens.

“I pose the question: 'Does Elk Grove have everything we need?'”, Montgomery said. “I believe we need more.”

Montgomery stated the need for fifty-thousand new, living wage jobs and additional services to achieve her aims, echoing the statements of many other candidates. Her plan for achieving her goals is to bring people together. “I'm a team player,” Montgomery said, “ a person who works with everyone well and believes in getting something done.”

But Montgomery feels the city is stuck. “I believe...there's always a selective group, the same group since [the year] 2000. We've seen already what they can do. Now it is time to see what 'new blood' can do.”

The question for voters is whether Montgomery has the background to create any meaningful progress as mayor. Besides her former campaigns for office, the candidate claimed in her interview no past or ongoing involvement in city affairs.

Montgomery cited her success and experience as CEO of the Reach Learning Center working in cities across the state as her most important contribution. “If I can do so much without it (the Mayor's office), I know I can do more with it.”

Montgomery also discussed her views on the Promenade Mall, the Sphere of Influence, and the new City Center, campaign finance and more, in the interview. You can hear the full interview.

Ms. Montgomery has failed to become involved with the local community in all the time she has lived here. She has demonstrated a lack of understanding of local issues in both her previous attempts to run for office. There is no evidence, in my opinion, that she has any of the experience necessary for the job.
